    :: REAWAKENING Vol II‘ Compiled by Jay OM [Free-Spirit Records]

    P.R> by DMG

    Occasionally Free-Spirit Records likes to flaunt itself, not in a big hair and stilettos, chest-out screaming look at me kind of way, no their style is way more subtle than that. Instead, what they will do is quietly assemble a team of producers from within their ranks, compile a few tunes, probably get some guy from the back-blocks of Australia to write a few words about it, release it onto an unsuspecting public then sit back and watch it go kaboom. That sound being the OMG moment when Free-Spirit Records blasts back into the consciousness of psy-trance devotees with a compilation that fully captures the talents they have mustered from the across the globe and now wave under the one banner.
    So it will happen again with the release of Reawakening Volume 2, a bringing together of the progressive entities found within Free-Spirit Records’ midst. These gatherings are all firm favourites already, on the basis of their previous albums and EP releases on the label, and the fourteen tracks here provide a showcase for their individual skills and collective sensibilities.
    The roll call of artists includes the barn-storming Portuguese duo Techyon, whose contribution opens the album with minimal fanfare but on reflection, provides an unhurried introduction to what it precedes. The track listing is carefully considered with Solar Spectrum’s tunes, once the introductions are over, providing the mood contexts for what is to follow. Tron and Ital, two FSR stalwarts, ensure that once into the guts of the album you are under no misconceptions. Now is the time to start stomping. This one is for the dancers. X-Control and Twelve Sessions’ offerings serve to reinforce this message but just before you start to gasp for oxygen in steps Monastic Squid with light relief, funk and humour. As with any Free-Spirit Records’ progressive inflection, Journey and Omsphere play major roles with tunes reflecting the dabbles their personas have across trance’s full spectrum, psy and beyond. Crafted like a good DJ set the final tunes from Braincell and Shalys encompass nods to journey taken to reach that point, a hint of euphoria and lots of no nonsense lets have it.
    Progressive psy-trance’s defining traits are, in comparison to its stable-mates, its no-frills, no gimmicks attitude so that its often minimalist sound can appear simplistic. That accusation cannot be made here; Reawakening Volume 2 has variety and definition, complementing many purposes. Enabling Free-Spirit Records to walk proud, it has done it again; the spotlight is once more on them.

    :: Jay OM Bio ::

    Jay OM (Journey / Omsphere / Sonic Wave Control / Crocodile Rangers / Star~Trip) is the psychedelic solo project of, Milan born but now London based, Giampiero ‚Jay‘ Mastino, label manager of Free-Spirit Records.

    Jay forged his earliest psychedelic-rock influences playing guitar in local bars in Milan. His romance with the decks began in the late 80’s whilst working for a local radio station where he was given the opportunity to spin his first record. This love firmly in place the move to London followed in 1998. Soon thereafter he started djing professionally as Jay OM and in 2003 he studied Sound Engineering and Music Technology and began a solo production project under the name Journey and another collaborative project called Star~Trip.

    In 2004, Jay conceived the vision of a network of like-minded artists in the psy-trance, progressive and ambient genres, all working to promote themselves and each other under one banner. Thus the Free-Spirit label was born… originally intended to focus on artist management, the label’s skyrocketing success combined with the enthusiasm of Jay, the artists and fans enabled Free-Spirit to outgrow its horizons.

    Following several successful compilation releases, Journey’s first EP was released on Free-Spirit Records in 2008 followed by his debut solo album, The Man who Sold the Time, in January 2009. In July 2010 he released a teaser EP, The Ripple Effect Part I, and then his second solo album, Through the Mirror, in September 2011. Journey has also released and continues to release numerous tracks on many other international labels and also has numerous releases under his other projects. He has been rocking the crowds at many of the biggest venues, outdoor parties and festivals in the UK, Europe, Central and Southern America and South Africa under his various projects including Boom Festival, Universo Paralello, Origin Festival, Fora do Tempo Festival, Aurora Festival, Vortex Festival, Boomerang Festival, Visions Festival, Sonica Festival, Samsara Festival, Life Celebration Festival, Mayan Soul Festival and many more…

    Jay also produces progressive under the name Omsphere, and is currently working on a solo album plus he has a further psychedelic collaborative project with Ralph K (Braincell/Solar Spectrum/Rastaliens) called Crocodile Rangers and in January 2012 formed a progressive tribal trance project called Sonic Wave Control with a debut album, Sixth Sense, released on Free-Spirit Records in April 2012.

    Today, Jay’s reputation as an active, involved and hard-working individual in the global trance circuit precedes him. His commitment and enthusiasm for trance music has left an indelible impression on the world scene already and Jay’s future has never looked brighter, from his burgeoningly successful record label to his organized events to his upcoming solo releases. Jay works tirelessly at his art and trade and the music he brings to the masses exemplifies the fruits of his labour and energy.

Aus der Perspektive des Autors betrachte ich das Ergebnis. Mein Ziel war es, Kunst Bildbände zu kompakten Reisegefährten zu machen. Bildbände für die Lektüre im Café herauszugeben, die zum Anlass eines Gesprächs werden. Bildbände, die man so eben mal schnell zu Freunden mitnehmen kann, um etwas zu zeigen; über Kunst zu sprechen.   Digitale Umsetzung […]

von Marc Large Ein Junge kommt zu spät zum Unterricht. Wie es junge Jungen eben so machen, kommt eine fantastische Entschuldigung, die erklären soll, warum er zu spät sei. Im Verlauf der Geschichte wird aber alles klar bis zur letzten Konsequenz. Der Commic Zeichner Mark Large hat die Figuren liebevoll entworfen und einen Volltreffer in […]
